Denis Trends is a Chrome extension that replaces your New Tab page with a dashboard showing trending content from various sources.

Data Collection

This extension does not collect any personal data.

• No account or login required
• No analytics or tracking
• No data sent to external servers, apart from the optional AI chat described below

Local Storage

The extension stores one preference locally on your device:

• Dashboard URL — saved via Chrome's storage API to persist your settings

The dashboard webpage itself stores preferences (theme, saved items, visited links) in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.

AI Chat

The dashboard includes an optional AI chat. It is inactive until you open it — if you never open it, nothing is sent anywhere.

When you send a message, it is processed by OpenAI on our behalf. What we send:

• The message you typed
• A capped slice of the recent turns of that conversation, so the reply follows the thread
• Grounding taken from the dashboard's own stored data — the item you are looking at, its stored summary or article text, or a snapshot of the current feed

What is not stored:

• No transcripts on our servers. Requests are sent with storage disabled (store: false), so OpenAI is not asked to retain the conversation either. Your conversation lives in your browser's sessionStorage and is gone when you close the tab; chat settings live in localStorage.
• No raw IP addresses. Your address is used only as a truncated, daily-salted hash for rate limiting, and is never stored in its original form.
• No message contents in logs. Logs record counters, response times, token usage, and which tools ran — never what was written.

If personalization is left on, the chat also sends a short list of topic words derived from reading history that is already stored locally in your browser. The reading history itself never leaves your device, and you can switch personalization off in the chat's settings.

Third-Party Services

The dashboard displays content aggregated from public APIs:

• Hacker News
• GitHub
• LessWrong
• Hype Replicate
• Midjourney (public explore feed)

These services have their own privacy policies. The extension does not share any of your data with them.

The optional AI chat uses one additional processor:

• OpenAI — generates chat replies from the message and grounding described above, under its own privacy policy
